Product design is the marriage of materials science and engineering with vision, creativity and art. It is the pursuit of product perfection through superior performance, simplicity and grace at The Waterworks-Lamson company.
It was a passion for product design combined with a love for sport that formed our company. The Waterworks-Lamson is unique among fly fishing companies. We are not a machine shop selling reels, we are not a marketing company importing products from overseas. Our focus is exclusively on fly fishing products, our expertise and experience is in product design, and we are committed to the highest standards of domestic manufacturing.
Our products uniquely reflect our drive for superior design. For us this means they must embody true innovation and meaningful improvement. You won't see The Waterworks marketing "just another fly reel" or a "me-too" accessory. If we can't do it better, we won't do it at all.
Making great products also requires a commitment to flawless manufacturing quality. From the Grade 5 titanium, the heat-treated 6020 aluminum alloy and the 544 bearing bronze we use in our reels, to the carbon thermo- composite we mold into the Ketchum Release, each material selection is made without a hint of compromise. The state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques and processes we employ result in the highest possible standards of precision, finish and function. And, of course, we extend our commitment to quality by offering personal assistance to our dealers and our customers throughout the lifetime of the product.
We thank you for your interest in our products, and we look forward to being a part of your passion for the sport.
Strength,
grace, speed; just as tarpon, bonefish and steelhead have been shaped by the
need to thrive in their environments, so have the FS series reels evolved to
live comfortably amid salt, sun, sand, or silt; boat decks and river rocks;
powerful fish and blistering runs.
The
result is the spectacular retrieve rate of a large-but-light "open" frame and
spool; the use of an oversized, high-torque version of our patented conical
drag; the benefit of a super-hard ceramic anodize finish.
Each FS
reel is fully CNC machined in the U.S., with the highest standards of precision
and craftsmanship. And if you happen to find them beautiful as well as
functional, we won't take credit for that. They are, like the fish, just
products of their environment.
Our goal is to bring the best technology in reels to any given price point.
Weve now addressed the important $100+ price point with Konic. Please read on
to find out what makes Konic a better reel than any other comparably priced
alternative.
When designing the Konic, we started with one given: to incorporate the same
fully sealed conical drag system and stainless steel roller clutch used in our
high-end reels. The drag system in Konic uses the same fully machined parts,
made of the same materials, and to the same specifications, as the drag used in
the $400+ Waterworks reels or any of our other high-end reels. This is the
principal benefit of the Konic versus competitive reels. What other $100+ reel
can say that it shares proven drag technology with a $400+ reel.
In order to deliver this expensive drag in a low-priced reel we are die
casting the frame and spool. But this is no low-end die casting. This is
Pressure Casting with molten ALDC12 aluminum alloy injected at 1,080 kgs
pressure to ensure consistent, smooth and strong parts with lower porosity.
Contrast this method with the Gravity Casting used by competitors. Our frame and
spool are solid single-part pieces. Again, contrast this with 2-part cast spools
that our competition uses. Once cast, the frame and spool are skim cut on CNC
machines, a process in which a thin surface layer is cut away to provide a
finish comparable to fully-machined reel.
We use a 100% solid polyurethane coating to provide a finish that is very
resistant to gouging and abrasion. Contrast this to the weaker electrostatic
paints that competitive reels use.
The Konic is a lightweight, true large arbor reel. Its strong, good looking,
well put-together and frugal. These are virtues in a fly reel, or a spouse. We
cant help you with the latter, but now we can ship you the former. Konic will
be available beginning late August 07 in a 5-6 weight; and followed in early
September with a 3-4 weight. Larger sizes will be available in early
08
The ULA Force reel combines the weight savings of the ULA Purist with the smooth conical drag that is used in the ULA Force Saltwater. The ULA Force has the stopping power needed for strong running fish, durability for travel and saltwater exposure, yet is sufficiently lightweight to cast all day without fatigue.
The ULA Force reels also offer the versatility of the “Fx” spools. This means that with the F2 reel you have a 4/5 weight reel and with the purchase of an F2x spool you'll be able to run 6 weight line. With the F3 reel you'll have a reel that is light enough to match to a 5 weight rod, and with the purchase of an additional F3x spool you’ll be able to run an 8 weight saltwater line with plenty of backing for bonefish without having to buy a second reel. With the Force reels, adding a spare “Fx” spool is like buying an entirely new reel for the price of a spool.
The Waterworks ULA P-Series reels are, to our knowledge, the lightest machined reels in the world today. To achieve this weight savings, the ULA uses an arm-style body and open spool design. In order to maintain structural rigidity, each surface of the ULA is curved. This subtly complex shape is extremely demanding to machine, but results in a strong, light and beautiful high-performance reel.
The ULA P-Series represents the lightest end of the ULA range of reels. The P-Series utilizes a click-pawl brake to achieve maximum simplicity and weight savings. This reel is for the fisherman who wants to minimize weight and maximize contact with the fish. The P-Series reels are CNC machined from solid aerospace-grade aluminum and titanium in the U.S.
The new Lamson Litespeed Hard Alo is a true large arbor reel with the same fully-sealed drag system that is used in the Waterworks ULA. Like the ULA, the Litespeed Alox is machined in the U.S. from barstock aluminum. By utilizing a more traditional structural design and foregoing the use of titanium we are able to offer a very fine, high performance large arbor reel at a value you would expect from Lamson. Lighter without sacrificing strength, the new Lightspeed Hard Alox will come in a close second to a corresponding Force reel in terms of retrieve rate and weight, and each shares our patented maintenance-free super smooth conical drag.
Years ago, Lamson was the first high-quality, fully machined reel at a great value. We are proud to introduce the Lamson Velocity Hard Alox, extending this tradition by incorporating leading-edge technology into a fully-machined reel that retails around $200.
The Velocity is a large-arbor workhorse with a conventional frame. For 2007, porting on the spool has been changed to increase ventilation and reduce weight. Equipped with a fully machined one-piece spool and our sealed conical drag, Velocity Hard Alox extends the Lamson tradition of value to a reel which represents a winning combination of leading edge technology and maintenance-free performance at a modest price.
We are pleased to introduce Guru, an enlightening reel. Guru enters the family as our lowest-priced fully machined reel. The signature arm-style element on the frame combines with open spokes to maximize structural strength and minimize weight. As with our other reels, Guru features true large arbor ratios. Guru is available in 4 weight through 10 weight, and shares identical drag design and components with our most expensive reels. Guru is finished with a clear type 2 anodize.
