Thomas and Thomas Switch Rod

New for 2012 Season

Thomas & Thomas Switch Rods

10', 4-Piece, 6 – 8 wt, Moderate / Fast Action

11'6", 4-Piece, 7 wt, Moderate / Fast Action

The Marketing Blurb:
The Switch movement continues to gather momentum and as a fly fishing category we can now firmly state that Switch is here to stay. With this in mind T&T have beefed up our Switch series for 2012, with the introduction of four new models.

Each model comes in a four-piece configuration and offers a level of feel and versatility that will appeal to trout, steelhead and salmon anglers alike. These rods offer a moderate fast action for effortless single and double handed casting. The culmination of two years of experimentation by T&T rod designer, Tom Dorsey, our prototype models have already found favor among trout nympher's, summer steelheader's and in the case of the 11'6" 7 weight as the perfect rod for Atlantic salmon fishing from the canoe, Canadian style.

The Technical Take: The new Thomas and Thomas Switch rods feature the latest graphite and resin technology and the high standard of components and craftsmanship you have come to expect from T&T.

The 10' rods are designed for situations where the angler chooses to cast overhead for the majority of the time but wishes to have the versatility to make controlled double handed roll casts when room for a backcast becomes restricted. We all know those pools where the fish lie in the most difficult to fish positions. These rods offer you the versatility to extract a fish or two from previously unfishable locales.

The 11'6" rod represents the longest Switch rod we have ever offered. In all likelihood this is the limit in terms of length for a Switch rod and anything longer would be categorized within our two handed series. But what a versatile rod this for salmon and steelhead anglers who wish to swing wet flies through a pool but have the ability to target cast dry flies at visible fish when they are active near the surface.

The Truth: When Tom Dorsey first handed this rod to T&T owner Mark Richens he was perturbed when Mark returned from an hour on the casting pond and stated that the Switch 11'6' 7 wt “scared him". The reason – its versatility. Mark felt that this lone rod would replace two of his current rods of choice for fishing Atlantic salmon on the Gaspe. As a two hander it offers the power to send floating lines and streamers in to the zone on all but the largest rivers. It is also a tremendous rod for the single handed casting of big bombers. Nothing is sacrificed in terms of accuracy and the additional length actually helps when wading and casting big dry flies.

If you fish without a guide on public waters you will appreciate the convenience and mobility of being able to tackle a river with one rod.

Put these Switch rods in the hands of serious anglers and you can almost hear the cogs start turning as they raid their memory bank to think of the many fishing situations where these rods just made their fishing that bit more effective.

That's the truth. And that's the reason we feel this series will be the Switch rods you'll eventually own.
